What to do if solid-strand aluminum wiring is found in your home

In this post, I’m not going to explain the hazards of single strand aluminum wiring, but I will describe the 3 approved methods of mitigating this potential safety issue.

1. Have an electrician open every outlet, switch, fixture, and junction box to evaluate the connections and use approved fixtures and wire nuts.
2. The same as above but instead of the wire nuts, use COPALUM connectors.
3. Replace all branch circuit wiring. This is more important when copper and aluminum are mixed.
